A new officer for a new year
For 2008/09 I was the Disability Officer for the Union. My role is to ensure that students who are physically disabled or have a learning difficulty are looked after and receive the right information.
Issues that have been raised over the year are the automatic doors and lifts not always working, making life in a wheelchair or on crutches quite awkward and disabled access to the new city campus. Many students who are eligible for a Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) are not taking it, either not being aware of it or not understanding that they are eligible.
If these are issues you care about and you'd like to make a difference to your Union, consider putting yourself forward to run for 2009/10.
